Her sweet, little baby bump took center stage, nestled beneath her white button-down shirt and unbuttoned blue jeans. At that moment, all eyes were on her. She was the center of attention. With gentle hands, Brooke cradled her belly, her gaze fixated on the life growing inside her. She gave a soft smile, and it was clear she was savoring this precious moment. I wanted to create one of my favorite poses with Brooke. I asked her to appear as though she was embracing her belly, but really lean into it, to exaggerate the hug. With a touch of hesitation, she leaned forward, her shoulder lifting, and wrapped her arms tightly around her sweet baby bump. Her smile grew as she held on, turning into laughter. I'm not going to lie, for Brooke, this laughter was a mix of both pregnancy joy and feeling weird in the pose I just put her in. She even admitted, “I feel weird doing this.” But then, the magic happened. I showed Brooke the image on the back of my camera. Her beauty displayed on the screen in front of her. Her eyes lit up, and she said the words that never fail to warm my heart: "Oh wait, that's actually cute! I like that!”. Music to my ears.
I loved this sweet moment with Brooke. Sometimes posing in front of a camera can feel awkward. I think it’s safe to say most people feel a little uncomfortable being photographed. Especially when I give you a pose that feels a bit unnatural. But I promise, I won’t steer you wrong! I've come to learn that the poses that initially seem the strangest often end up becoming my clients' favorites. Mine too! Showing Brooke the back of the camera gave her the confidence boost she needed. Because, hello, she looked amazing! Revealing an image on my camera screen isn't a regular practice during our sessions; after all, it's not the final product. But every once in a while, I can't resist the temptation, especially when I know it will hype up my clients. And the smiles I receive in return are worth it every time.
